Thousands of slip, trip missteps and fall accidents occur each month in places where the traveling public interfaces with transportation services (land, sea and air). This includes: airports, bus terminals, cruise ship and ferry terminals, railroad terminals, and train and subway stations. This web seminar covers a variety of safety issues related to the walking surfaces, including: ramps, stairs, pathways, gangways, jetways, doorways, waiting areas, platforms, floor materials and coefficient of friction; transporting equipment, such as escalators, elevators and moving walkways, which are commonly present in these facilities. In addition, available standards and safety requirements will be discussed.
Part II will include: safety and security, wayfinding, information and communication systems, measuring crowding, other related issues (aerodynamics, slipstreams, etc.) and applications of new technology.
